Battle of the Stars for Breast Cancer Ireland is sponsored by Joe Duffy Group
A reunion of sorts for many of the faces who participated in Strictly Against Breast Cancer over the past three years, it included broadcasters Elaine Crowley and Jenny Buckley, rugby pundit Shane Byrne, solicitor Gerald Kean; 2FMs Eoghan McDermott; Red Rock actor Dave Crowley, Fair City actors George McMahon, Dave O Sullivan and Jenny Dixon as well as beauty expert Triona McCarthy, models Lynn Kelly and Karena Graham, and weather-girl Helen Curran.
Aptly titled ‘Battle of the Stars’, the event also included survivors of breast cancer, some of whom reunited with past partners to perform on the night. New combinations were also created in order to showcase a range of hitherto unseen singing, acting and dancing talents.
A celebrity judging panel, including musician Samantha Mumba along with a few other surprise guests were on hand to assess the entertainment value and of course style on the night. MC Elaine Crowley kept the judges on track as well as keeping over three hundred and fifty guests entertained throughout the evening.
Each of the participants spent a number of months being put through a rigorous regime of rehearsals by a team of professional voice coaches, choreographers and stylists.
On arrival, guests were welcomed on to the pink carpet at the iconic Intercontinental Hotel in Ballsbridge for a champagne reception, followed by a four course gala dinner and entertainment. Once the winners and prizes had been announced, guests and participants were invited to dance into the late hours to the retro sounds of The Sugar Cubes.
The world of business, finance, arts, sports, media, fashion and entertainment and the community were in attendance to experience this black tie spectacle of glamour and expertise with the aim of raising funds towards Breast Cancer Ireland’s pioneering research and awareness programmes throughout the country. The event managed to raise an incredible €75,000 on the night for an incredible charity.
