Made for life’s adventures image

Made for life’s adventures

The Ford S-MAX is built for exciting escapes to the great outdoors. Since every adventure is more fun when you share it, this elegant Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) has plenty of space for people and their things. A five or seven-seater configuration, up to three ISOFIX points for child seats, and a flexible seating system means accommodation for everyone and everything that goes with them — from suitcases to surf boards.

S-MAX now offers a new engine option, too: a 2.5-litre petrol hybrid engine. Alongside reduced CO2 emissions, it delivers exceptional power, torque and towing capability. There’s no need for plug-in charging and the battery is hidden under the floor, so there is no compromise on loadspace at all.   In fact, you’ll find every inch of this car is designed for those with an adventurous spirit.

S-Max’s new powertrain option combines a highly efficient 2.5-litre Atkinson Cycle Petrol engine with a battery-powered electric motor. The system recaptures energy usually lost while coasting and decelerating and uses it to recharge battery, so there’s no need to plug in to recharge. Since it has a powerful water-cooled battery it also lets you drive short distances on electric power alone. To preserve boot space, the battery is nested under the floor. While achieving CO2 emissions of just 147g/km, the new engine delivers an impressive combined power of 140kw (190PS). As a result, the S-Max Hybrid has a towing capacity of 1750 kg: enough for a small boat.

Parking made even easier image
Parking made even easier

Active Park Assist can steer you into parking spaces just 20% longer than your vehicle. Simply push a button and the sensors of this innovative system locate a suitable space as you drive past. Then it automatically steers you in, while all you do is operate the accelerator, gears and brake (following on-screen instructions and audible signals).

Extra control during hill starts image

Extra control during hill starts

Hill Start Assist temporarily stops you rolling backwards or forwards when making a hill start. The system works by maintaining pressure to the braking system for an extra 2-3 seconds, giving you more time and control as you move your foot from brake pedal to accelerator. It’s also useful when you’re stopping and starting on slippery surfaces.

Stress-free parking and pulling out

Works like Active Park Assist in reverse, helping you manoeuvre out of a parallel space. The system steers while you operate the accelerator, brake and gears. When the vehicle has cleared the space, it informs you to 'Take control of steering' as a message through the cluster.

Blind Spot Information System† (BLIS) senses vehicles hidden in your blind spot to make changing lanes safer*. If it detects a vehicle, the system alerts you via discreet warning lights on the door mirrors. Cross Traffic Alert works with BLIS to increase awareness when you’re reversing out of a space with limited visibility. The system detects vehicles approaching from the sides and sounds a warning alerting you to their presence.

*Driver-assist features are supplemental and do not replace the driver’s attention, judgement and need to control the vehicle
