Ford S-Max

New Ford S-Max

Practical yet Sophisticated

Parking made even easier

Active Park Assist can steer you into parking spaces just 20% longer than your vehicle. Simply push a button and the sensors of this innovative system locate a suitable space as you drive past. Then it automatically steers you in, while all you do is operate the accelerator, gears and brake (following on-screen instructions and audible signals).

Seats that provide added support… and can give you a massage

Multi-contour seats are available for the driver and front passenger and the design makes them fully adjustable. As a result, they can provide added support where you need it and even offer you a massage, helping you stay fresh on long journeys.

Extra power for emergency braking

Emergency Brake Assist helps your vehicle achieve maximum braking effectiveness in an emergency situation. It’s controlled automatically via the Electronic Stability Control system, which senses how much pressure you’ve applied to the brake yourself and automatically increases it, if necessary.

Make light work of heavy traffic

Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go lets you set both your cruising speed, and distance from the vehicle in front. If it detects traffic is slowing, the system will maintain your pre-set distance if conditions don’t allow for your preferred cruising speed. It can even bring you to a complete stop in heavy traffic. Once the road in front is clear, the system automatically accelerates back up to your chosen speed – making it ideal for negotiating the crowded stop-start driving of urban environments.

Extra control during hill starts

Hill Start Assist temporarily stops you rolling backwards or forwards when making a hill start. The system works by maintaining pressure to the braking system for an extra 2-3 seconds, giving you more time and control as you move your foot from brake pedal to accelerator. It’s also useful when you’re stopping and starting on slippery surfaces.

Keeping you inside the speed limit

Intelligent Speed Assist works with Traffic Sign Recognition to enhance your speed control, enabling you to concentrate on the road. When activated, the system can identify the local speed limit and then automatically adjust your maximum speed accordingly.

Headlights that help you see around bends

Adaptive Lighting with Dynamic LED headlights and daytime running lights deliver a precise and intensely bright light pattern that automatically adjusts to suit different road and driving conditions. In addition, glare-free high beam adjusts itself automatically to avoid dazzling other drivers, and the new system can even read the curve of the road to illuminate corners and crossings before you enter them.

Sees what’s coming, from either side

A tiny panoramic camera, on the front of the S-MAX, relays a split-screen image to your car’s multi-function display so you can see vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians coming from either side. This Front Wide-View Camera is invaluable if you’re edging out of a narrow parking space, or on to a busy road where your view is obstructed.

A system that can help protect pedestrians

Pre-Collision Assist detects vehicles and pedestrians in the road ahead, or who could cross the vehicle’s path, and warns you of their presence. If you don’t respond, the system automatically applies the brakes. This technology is designed to help reduce the severity of accidents, or help avoid them altogether, and functions at speeds of up to 80 km/h.

Easier, safer reversing

Bollards, bicycles, low walls… The rear-view camera shows whatever’s behind you on a screen built into the centre console. As well as revealing objects you might miss, the system displays virtual lines to help you park into the smallest of spaces. The camera activates automatically when you select reverse gear.

Intelligent headlights

Adaptive Lighting with Ford Dynamic LED headlights delivers precise and intensely bright light patterns that are automatically adjusted to suit different road and driving conditions. Daytime running lights are also included and LED sequential turn indicator strips replace traditional ‘blinking’ lights, illuminating in sequence for high visibility. In addition, Glare-free high beam adjusts itself automatically to avoid dazzling other drivers and by following the road, these new headlights help you see more clearly when driving around bends.

Technology that sees what you can’t see

The Blind Spot Information System uses RADAR sensors to see vehicles that may be hidden in your blind spot. They’re situated on either side of your S-MAX and alert you with an orange light, clearly displayed in the side door mirror.

Stress-free parking and pulling out

Works like Active Park Assist in reverse, helping you manoeuvre out of a parallel space. The system steers while you operate the accelerator, brake and gears. When the vehicle has cleared the space, it informs you to 'Take control of steering' as a message through the cluster.

Spots the vehicles you might miss

Cross Traffic Alert is part of the Blind Spot Information System. When you’re reversing out of a space and have limited visibility of the traffic situation, Cross Traffic Alert can detect oncoming vehicles and sound a warning. The technology illuminates a light in the wing mirror too (left or right depending on the direction of oncoming traffic).

Key-free means hassle-free

The Ford KeyFree System lets you lock and unlock your vehicle, without having to take your key out of your pocket or bag. Ideal when you’ve got your hands full.

A panorama roof for a lighter, airier feel

At the press of a button, the electronically operated roof blind glides away, allowing natural light to stream in through the panorama roof. At the same time, solar reflective glass keeps you cool and protects you from harmful UV rays.

A steering column that adjusts to suit you

To help you find your ideal, most comfortable driving position, the steering column easily adjusts for both rake and reach.

Are you sitting comfortably?

The S-MAX is available with specially designed ergonomic seats, maximising your back support, and keeping you comfortable and relaxed on even the longest journeys. The 18-way adjustable seats (including an electrically-operated, 4-way adjustable lumbar support), have been certified by the AGR (Campaign for Healthier Backs) and are recommended by doctors and physiotherapists.Text here ...

Helping to keep you inside the speed limit

Intelligent speed assist is designed to enhance your speed control, enabling you to concentrate on the road. First, the Traffic Sign Recognition camera automatically detects the current speed limit (when activated), then the system adjusts your maximum speed setting to that limit.

A hands-free tailgate for effortless opening and closing

If you’ve got your hands full, and the S-MAX senses the proximity of your KeyFree key fob, all you have to do is wave your foot under the rear bumper and the tailgate will automatically open or close.

Smart seating system for ultimate flexibility

Versatile seating provides generous space for up to seven, with folding second- and third-row seats enabling numerous seating and stowage configurations. For example, the second-row and third-row seats can be folded flat at the press of a button making instant room for your sporting gear or bulky DIY purchases.

Protecting and securing your car from thieves

A Thatcham Category 1 alarm is a sophisticated system that automatically arms itself when you double-lock the vehicle and will sound a powerful alarm if triggered by forced entry, the vehicle being lifted, or if the motion sensors pick up any movement inside. The technology is also designed to help prevent unwanted towing of the vehicle. It's possible to arm the system in different ways, which means you can choose to monitor the doors, bonnet and boot.

An advanced airbag system

An airbag system that incorporates front seat pelvic and thorax airbags.

The key to a more connected world

For the first time, the new S-MAX is available with a FordPass Connect modem. The system provides a range of invaluable benefits, including up to 4G WiFi for up to ten devices, and real-time traffic updates delivered straight to your in-car navigation system. When combined with the FordPass app on your phone, you’ll be able to check if you remembered to lock the doors, and then lock or unlock them remotely. You can even see your van’s location on a map, so you don’t have to worry about forgetting where you parked when in unfamiliar locations.

Download the FordPass app to access even more features

FordPass Connect becomes even more powerful after it’s been paired with your smartphone via the FordPass app. Once connected, you’ll unlock a range of innovative new features. For example, you can use your phone to locate your vehicle, lock and unlock it remotely. You can monitor fuel level, mileage and tyre pressure, and get vehicle health alerts direct to your phone. Plus, you can even start your car (auto Transmission only) so that it’s de-iced, demisted and ready to go when you are. You can also program your satnav from home by sending a destination directly from your phone to the car.
