Transit Custom has always been renowned for its tough, functional reliability, and the superior levels of its design and craftsmanship. Now, it delivers an even wider range of innovative features and smart technologies. Plus greater efficiency thanks to a range of advanced diesel or available hybrid options. The result is: a van that’s more refined and sophisticated than ever before.
Fully charged, the New Transit Custom Plug-In Hybrid’s can take you more than 56 kilometres using the electric motor alone. Ideal on those short trips in the city that usually result in low efficiency and more money spent on fuel. On longer journeys, the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine helps to extend the van’s range – working with regenerative braking to recharge the battery. And once sufficiently charged, you can switch back to electric only, helping you save money and reduce pollution.
The advanced electric powertrain can be charged at the mains and runs solely on electric power on shorter journeys. With support from the multi award-winning 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine, the van delivers outstanding efficiency, even on longer trips. The Transit Custom Plug-In Hybrid van helps reduce local pollution, and delivers all the flexibility, capability and dependability you expect from a Ford Transit Custom.
The New Transit Custom can effortlessly carry standard 8’ x 4’ boards flat on the floor or three euro pallets. Thanks to its convenient and innovative load-through storage area, it can also accommodate items up to 3.4m long (L2), without preventing you from using the front passenger seats. Overall, the van provides up to six cubic metres of loadspace with a bulkhead fitted, and that’s just the short wheelbase (L1) version: the long wheelbase (L2) offers up to 6.8 cubic metres. It has the widest side load door-opening of any vehicle of its type. And the sliding doors have a new mechanism which holds them securely open for loading.
The Transit Custom Plug-in hybrid (PHEV) utilises two separate power sources. A battery powered electric motor drives the vehicle, while its 1.0L Ford EcoBoost petrol engine works to recharge the hybrid battery and extend the vehicle’s range. The driver can select between four available EV modes, including EV Now which allows you to drive with zero emissions on electric-only power, to a targeted range of 50 km. The PHEV battery can also be recharged using most AC network charging points.
Featuring a range of advanced 2.0-litre Ford EcoBlue diesel engines, the New Tourneo Custom is more powerful and more efficient than ever. With four powertrains available, offering up to 185 PS and 405 Nm of torque, you’re guaranteed to find the one that meets your specific needs. Whichever you choose, every engine meets the stringent Euro 6.2 emissions standards too. The vehicle is even available as a mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (mHEV) for even greater fuel economy and reduced emissions.
The new Transit Custom is also available as an EcoBlue Hybrid. This technology helps to reduce fuel consumption and lower emissions, with a small battery-powered electric motor providing extra support to the combustion engine when needed. Kinetic energy and regenerative braking recharges the 48-volt hybrid battery while you drive.
Ford SYNC 3 is an advanced system that enables you to stay connected and control your phone, music and navigation system. Choose either voice commands or the 8” colour touchscreen with pinch-and-swipe gestures for intuitive navigation. Live Traffic can help you avoid the jams. You can even call up a list of local restaurants simply by saying “I’m hungry”*.
Trailer Sway Control detects ‘snaking’ or trailer sway and reduces your vehicle’s speed to help solve the problem, making towing more controlled. The system slows the vehicle down by reducing the engine’s torque and gradually increasing the brake pressure on all wheels.
When you stop at traffic lights or your vehicle is idling in a queue, this technology can automatically switch off the engine (while still supplying power to essentials like the headlights, air-conditioning, radio and the Ford SYNC system). When you're ready to move, just depress the clutch and select first gear as usual, or press the accelerator on an automatic, and the system restarts. Auto Start-Stop is particularly effective in town and city streets, where it can cut fuel consumption by up to 10% (urban cycle).
With Adaptive Cruise Control technology, you choose the speed you want to drive at and the system will maintain it. If the built-in RADAR sensor detects a vehicle ahead, it will slow your vehicle to maintain a pre-set distance. Once the road in front is clear, the system will accelerate to your chosen speed. Forward Alert is a technology that comes as part of Adaptive Cruise Control and is designed to warn you if you accidentally get too close to the vehicle in front.
Parking your van in a busy street or a tight space can be tricky. But Active Park Assist makes it easier than you’d ever believe possible. Once activated, the system can identify a suitable perpendicular or parallel space, and then steer you in. All you need to do is brake or accelerate as directed. The technology can even steer you out of a parking space when you want to get back on the road. ‘Available at extra cost’.
Automatic headlights use a sensor that detects failing light at dusk, or when there’s a sudden change in light conditions. This triggers the automatic headlights to turn themselves on, aiding the driver in darker conditions.
In addition, Auto High Beam temporarily dips your headlights when it detects oncoming traffic or a vehicle ahead, stopping you dazzling other drivers. It then automatically reverts back to high beam, giving you maximum visibility.
The New Transit Custom now comes with Intelligent Speed Assist, designed to enhance your speed control, enabling you to concentrate on the road. First, the Traffic Sign Recognition camera automatically detects the current speed limit (when activated), then the system adjusts your maximum speed setting to that limit.
Highly energy efficient, these advanced daytime running lights provide a signature look that really sets new Transit Custom apart: they’ll help get you noticed during the day and seen clearly at night.
Hill Start Assist temporarily stops you rolling backwards or forwards when making a hill start. The system works by maintaining pressure to the braking system for an extra 2-3 seconds, giving you more time and control as you move your foot from brake pedal to accelerator. It’s also useful when you’re stopping and starting on slippery surfaces.
Bollards, bicycles, low walls… The rear-view camera shows whatever’s behind you on a screen built into the centre console. As well as revealing objects you might miss, the system displays virtual lines to help you park into the smallest of spaces. The camera activates automatically when you select reverse gear.
Front and rear parking distance sensors help you judge the distance between your vehicle and obstacles in front or behind you. When the sensors detect an object, they activate a visual and audible warning that intensifies the closer you get to it.
The rear air suspension system automatically adjusts to maintain a constant ride height, regardless of the loading conditions. This means you'll enjoy a smoother ride whether alone, with passengers or in a fully laden vehicle.
New front seat designs feature revised seat geometry, thicker yarn fabrics and finer yet more durable trims for greater support, extra comfort and more relaxed journeys. As for seating configurations, Transit Custom Kombi variants have second and third row 2+1 flamingo seats, Transit Custom Kombi Van has second row 2+1 flamingo seats and Transit Custom DCiV has a second-row triple bench.
Optional super-bright, energy efficient LED lights for the load area are invaluable when you’re working inside the back of your van. They’re another simple, yet practical innovation.
Pre-Collision Assist detects slower vehicles in the road ahead, or pedestrians and vehicles that could cross your path, and warns you of their presence. If you don’t respond, the system automatically applies the brakes. This technology is designed to help reduce the severity of accidents, or help avoid them altogether, and functions effectively at speeds of up to 50 mph / 80 km/h (assuming normal road and vehicle conditions).
An advanced Traction Control System eliminates excessive wheelspin and gives you the best possible grip, performance and stability, just when you need it most. The system constantly monitors and adjusts the power delivered to the vehicle’s individual wheels ensuring maximum contact and grip when you’re accelerating.
The new Transit Custom is available with an optional perimeter alarm system, which is set off if the doors or bonnet are opened by force. A more sophisticated Thatcham Category 1 alarm system is also available. This automatically arms itself when you lock the vehicle and a powerful alarm sounds if triggered by forced entry, the vehicle being lifted, or if the motion sensors pick up any movement inside.
The New Transit Custom has a distinctive feature designed to extend its load space. A full height, full width bulkhead divides the load area from the passenger cabin and this bulkhead has a flip-up panel at floor level. This means you can load items up to 3m long through the rear doors and into an extended storage area under the van’s dual passenger seats, even in the short wheelbase version. This smart feature enables you to keep valuable materials inside your vehicle, rather than on display on the roof.
A cleverly designed new sliding door track is covered to conceal the mechanism. The result is improved aerodynamic efficiency and reduced noise.
An innovative roof rack simply folds flat when not in use. As well as saving you the hassle of bolting on and taking off a conventional rack, it lets you pass under 2m height restrictions (except for the 3,400 kilo Gross Vehicle Mass derivatives). It also helps save fuel because of reduced drag, and gives you a quieter ride with less wind noise.
There’s a compartment above the steering wheel / instrument cluster that puts a number of useful features within easy reach. For example, there’s a 12V power socket, an auxiliary input and a standard USB port. A second 12V power socket and USB port are also conveniently placed next to the gear shifter.
You can even have a 240V socket fitted, supplying 150 Watts of power.
For practicality and ease of use, the rear doors can be locked open at 90 degrees and the check arms stowed inside them when they’re not in use. High visibility decals on the doors’ inner edges reflect light, warning other road users of the vehicles presence. And even closing the doors is now easier because improved air extraction vents relieve air pressure build-up in the cargo area.
Helping businesses to operate in low emissions zones. Delivering outstanding efficiency with zero compromise to capability. We’re proud to announce the new range of Ford Transit Custom hybrids as winners of the International Van of the Year Award for 2020.
The first Plug-in Hybrid in its segment, Transit Custom PHEV is capable of electric-only driving and zero emissions to a targeted range of 56 km. While the Transit Custom EcoBlue Hybrid powertrain delivers up to an 8% improvement on fuel efficiency on non-hybrid variants.
Whatever your business, Transit Custom is flexible enough to meet your needs.
It’s available in three variants: Van, Double-Cab-in-Van and Kombi. There are also two body lengths and two roof heights, and a choice of Series and equipment options. Which means you can choose a combination that’s precisely right for you.
The Transit Custom Van is a functional load carrier, with a full-height, full-width bulkhead (glazed or unglazed), which separates the loadspace from the cabin, and the choice of two or three seats in the front. You can specify single or twin sliding doors and choose hinged rear doors or a tailgate.
As with the Van, you can choose two or three seats in the front row. In addition, the Double-Cab-in-Van offers an extra fixed row of three seats, behind the front row. Then a fixed glazed bulkhead separates the second row of seats from the loadspace.
The Transit Custom Kombi is even more versatile than the Kombi Van. In fact, it offers more than 30 different seating arrangements. It has the same Flexible Rear Seating system but with an extra – third – row of three seats. With all the seats present, you can carry up to nine people. As on the Kombi Van, the seats can be folded and rolled together to take up less space.
