With a sophisticated new look, comprehensively updated interior, and more advanced technology than ever before, Transit Connect has evolved.
The trademark Transit toughness, durability and functionality still remain, in features including an ingenious load-through bulkhead and flexible front passenger seating. With short and long wheelbase options providing load volumes up to 3.6m³ (VDA), payload capacity ranging from 520 – 890kg, and bodystyles including van and double-cab-in-van. But this is now an exceptionally sophisticated van equipped with valuable drive-assist technologies many of which are not available in cars today. Others help keep drivers connected, hands-free; to help them control and monitor their speed; and even to help protect pedestrians in their path.
Technology has also improved fuel economy and lowered emissions, and with them, those all-important running costs.
Transit Connect features a new full design of steel bulkhead that increases usable load space by approximately 50 litres. There’s also enough room for two Euro-pallets or four standard 8’ x 4’ boards in the load box.
The Transit Connect now comes with Intelligent Speed Assist, designed to enhance your speed control and enabling you to concentrate on the road. First, the Traffic Sign Recognition camera automatically detects the current speed limit (when activated), then the system adjusts your maximum speed setting to that limit.
The state-of-the-art 75 PS, 100 PS and 120 PS Ford diesel engines are highly advanced, turbo-charged powertrains that deliver measurably improved efficiency, performance and refinement. The new engines can improve fuel efficiency, are more responsive and also quieter than ever before.
Ford SYNC 3 is an advanced system that enables you to stay connected and control your phone, music and navigation system. Choose either voice commands or the 6” colour touchscreen with pinch-and-swipe gestures for intuitive navigation. Live Traffic can help you avoid the jams. You can even call up a list of local restaurants simply by saying “I’m hungry”.
Pre-Collision Assist detects vehicles and pedestrians in the road ahead. It can even detect pedestrians that may be about to cross the vehicle’s path. The system warns you if it detects a potential collision and if you don’t respond it will automatically apply the brakes. This technology is designed to help reduce the severity of accidents, or help avoid them altogether, and functions at speeds of up to 80km/h.
Available on all van versions with a dual front passenger seat, an ingenious load-through bulkhead lets you carry items up to 3m long in a short wheelbase van (L1) and up to 3.4m in a long wheel-base model (L2). The bulkhead has a flip-up hatch at the bottom, which you can slide long items through and into a storage area beneath the front passenger seats. Behind the bulkhead, there’s room for two Euro-pallets (in L1) or up to four 8’ x 4’ sheets of material (in L2).
Active Park Assist can steer you into parallel or perpendicular parking spaces. Simply push a button and the sensors of this innovative system locate a suitable space as you drive past. Then it automatically steers you in, while all you do is operate the accelerator, gears and brake (following on-screen instructions and audible signals). It will pull out of parallel spaces as well.
Cruise Control lets you set a speed then maintains it until you brake or accelerate. Via toggles on the steering wheel you can also adjust your speed while you’re driving.
In addition, the Adjustable Speed Limiter device helps you drive within a pre-set limit that you select. Not only does it help you to save fuel, the system can minimise the likelihood of you exceeding the speed limit too. As well as their practical benefits, both technologies can make long motorway journeys more relaxing.
Front and rear parking distance sensors help you judge the distance between your vehicle and obstacles in front or behind you. When the sensors detect an object, they activate a visual and audible warning that intensifies the closer you get to it.
The new slimmer automatic headlights incorporate powerful HID Xenon lamps and striking LED daytime running lights. An integrated sensor detects failing light at dusk, or when there’s a sudden change in light conditions. This triggers the automatic headlights to turn themselves on, which can make driving both easier and safer.
Bollards, bicycles, low walls… The rear-view camera shows whatever’s behind you on a screen built into the centre console. As well as revealing objects you might miss, the system displays virtual lines to help you park into the smallest of spaces. The camera activates automatically when you select reverse gear.
When you stop at traffic lights or your vehicle is idling in a queue, this technology can automatically switch off the engine (while still supplying power to essentials like the headlights, air-conditioning, radio and the Ford SYNC system). When you're ready to move, just depress the clutch and select first gear as usual, or press the accelerator on an automatic, and the system restarts. Auto Start-Stop is particularly effective in town and city streets, where it can cut fuel consumption by up to 10% (urban cycle).
Transit Connect is equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, making it more economical and efficient. Once you reach a high enough speed, just slip your van into 6th gear and save on fuel while you’re cruising along. You’ll find the gear changes are smooth and quick too.
The Transit Connect is available with an optional perimeter alarm system, which is set off if the doors or bonnet are opened by force. A more sophisticated Thatcham Category 1 alarm system is also available. This automatically arms itself when you lock the vehicle and a powerful alarm sounds if triggered by forced entry, the vehicle being lifted, or if the motion sensors pick up any movement inside.
A battery back-up sounder is an additional, secondary alarm system that comes with the Thatcham alarm option. This sounds a siren when the alarm is triggered and because it has its own built-in power source, will activate even if someone disconnects the main vehicle battery.
With various body styles (Van and Double-Cab-in-Van), seating for two to seven people, two body lengths, and payload options up to 903kg, you’re sure to find a Transit Connect that fits your needs perfectly.
You also have a comprehensive choice of specification levels in each bodystyle, plus many equipment options that enable you to further customise your vehicle.
And if you need something more specialised, our Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) group can provide everything from unique body colours to bespoke loading systems.
Spacious, well laid-out and highly functional: the loadspace features a full-height, full-width bulk-head (glazed or unglazed) and the choice of two or three seats in the cab. A sliding side load door and symmetrical rear cargo doors are fitted as standard. Plus, you can specify a glazed rear lift-gate with wash/wipe and heated de-mist option.
As well as two seats in the front row, the Double-Cab-in-Van has an extra row of three seats be-hind them. A moveable mesh bulkhead safely separates the second row of seats from the loadspace.
